The North Sea Commission and the Interreg IIIb North Sea Programme  have the pleasure to invite all who are interrested to our joint conference June 14th - 16th at Avimore, in the region of Highland in Scotland.

The North Sea Commission was founded in 1989 to facilitate and enhance partnerships between regions, which manage the challenges, and opportunities presented by the North Sea. Furthermore, to promote the North Sea Basin as a major economic entity within Europe, by encouraging joint development initiatives and political lobbying at European Union level.

The North Sea Commission has determined that its activities must be action orientated, involving co-operation programmes, research activities, funding applications, and joint policy statements which bring positive benefits to the people of the North Sea Basin. Most of the work within the North Sea Commission is done through our six political lead thematic groups, covering the areas Fisheries, Education & Research, Culture & Tourism, Environment, Transport and Economic Development.

The North Sea Commission is one of six Commissions under the umbrella of CPMR (the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions). The North Sea Commission has 70 member regions, from Scotland, England, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands and France, and this annual conference and General Assembly is our main event with 250-300 delegates, many of them regional politicians.

The conference is a joint conference between the Interreg IIIB North Sea Programme and the North Sea Commission. The theme for the conference is "The North Sea Region – We have the courage to innovate - Making a reality of Lisbon and Göteborg". How can we use Interregional cooperation and Interreg as an instrument for the implementations of Lisbon and Gothenburg Agendas?
